The Sooners return home for a game against South Dakota State University since their game on Sunday was cancelled for weather. Starting in the circle was the red hot Nicole May putting her perfect 0.00 ERA on the line against the Jackrabbits. May worked around a one out infield single to blank SDSU in the first. Back to back 1 out walks and a 2 out hit by pitch loaded the bases. Alynah Torres hit her first home run in a Sooner uniform in grand fashion. After a scoreless top of the 2nd the Sooners loaded the bases again all with 2 outs by hits for Coleman and Jennings, and a walk to Lee. 2 out hits has been the staple for the Sooners, Hansen hit a 2 run single to make the lead 6-0 at the end of the 2nd. Working around a leadoff walk and a 2 out single May got a swinging strikeout to end the 3rd. The Sooners went quietly in the bottom half of the 3rd. Getting her 7th strikeout and a 5-4-3 double play May worked a quick 4th.
A ball in play and an errant throw allows Lilio to reach and a walk to Coleman put 2 on. Lilio scored on a sac fly from Jennings but they doubled Coleman off of first to make the game 7-0. The 5th inning brought the entrance of Jordy Bahl in relief of May. A 2 out hit by pitch was the only occurrence of note for Bahl as she threw a scoreless frame. The Sooners only needing one run to end the game via mercy rule, started the inning with a walk by pinch hitting Nugent. Another walk to Erickson and the second error of the night by the SS loaded the bases. Boone swung at the first pitch and grounded to the drawn in infield and they gunned down Nugent on the force at home. After an elongated at bat by Brito ended with a hit by pitch to force the final tally across and end the game 8-0. Sooners only collected 5 hits on the game but when one is a grand slam it doesn’t matter. They showed very good plate discipline drawing 6 walks, 2 HBP, and only 1 strikeout.
The Sooners will host the Seminoles of Florida State for the first time ever on Tuesday. The sold out game will have the eyes of the nation for the top 10 matchup.
