The Roundup – Start of Spring Edition
Insider news and notes to start off spring ball, including some preliminary depth chart battles, body transformations, and hope for the defense.
The Sooners will take on the 9-3 Florida State Seminoles in the Cheez-it Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The Seminoles are led by QB Jordan Travis who has thrown for 2,796 and 22 touchdowns on the season. Jordan Travis has also run for 481 yards on 75 attempts and has 7 rushing touchdowns. Florida State’s offense averages 36 points per game on the season, while opponents average only 19 points per game. Florida State has two prolific wins coming against LSU and Florida. They struggled midway thru the season loosing 3 straight against Wake Forest, NC State and Clemson. The Seminoles will be playing in their first bowl game since 2019. Oklahoma and Florida State last played back in 2011, which the Sooners won 23-13. The Sooners are 6-1 against the Seminoles all time.
There are many unknowns for the Sooners heading into this bowl game, one of which being how they will contain dual quarterback threat Jordan Travis. Junior offensive tackle Anton Harrison announced that he will be forgoing the bowl game and heading to the NFL draft. Senior offensive tackle Wanya Morris also announced he will not be playing in the bowl game. With the Sooners missing both of their starting offensive tackles, I think it is safe to assume we will see Sophomore Tyler Guyton, who has made 3 starts on the season. Freshman Jacob Sexton will be the likely replacement at right tackle. 7 Sooners have entered the transfer portal already. Those 7 are; WR Theo Wease, DB Jordan Makes, QB Nick Evers, DL Alton Tarber, DB Bryson Washington, DB Joshua Eaton and DB Kendall Dennis. DL Jalen Redmond has announced he will declare for the NFL draft, along RB Eric Gray has announced he will be entering the NFL draft, this sets up Freshman Jovantae Barnes as the RB1 in this match up against Florida State.
The Sooners will take on Florida State on December 29th at 4:30 pm on ESPN.
