Sooners in the Pro Bowl

Last week, the NFL revealed the 2023 Pro Bowl rosters. The University of Oklahoma was well represented in this year’s Pro Bowl selections, with 8. The Sooners’ 8 selections only trail one school, Alabama which had 11 Pro Bowl selections. Oklahoma had the most offensive lineman selected to this year’s Pro Bowl, with 4. The former Sooners represented in this year’s Pro Bowl are Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia, CeeDee Lamb, WR, Dallas, Mark Andrews, TE, Baltimore, Creed Humphrey, C, Kansas City, Orlando Brown Jr, LT, Kansas City, Trent Williams, LT, San Francisco, Lane Johnson, RT, Philadelphia, and Tress Way, P, Washington.

Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts earned his first Pro Bowl selection as he is the MVP favorite. This season, Hurts has been electric for the Eagles who only have 1 loss with Hurts as the starting QB. On the year, Hurts has 3472 yards passing with 22 touchdowns to only 5 interceptions. Hurts has also picked up 747 yards on the ground with 13 rushing touchdowns. Hurts has completed 67.3% of his passes, his career best. Hurts is averaging 4.8 per rushing attempt. The former Sooner QB has the 3rd best Passer Rating in the NFL with a rating of 104.6. With this only being Hurts’ 3rd year in the league, it looks like the former 2nd rounder will have a successful NFL career. Jalen Hurts played at Oklahoma for only 1 season in 2019.

CeeDee Lamb

CeeDee Lamb was selected to his 2nd Pro Bowl in his 3rd season in the NFL. Lamb has had another stellar season in the NFL to earn his spot in this year’s Pro Bowl. The star Cowboys WR has 91 receptions for 1207 yards and 8 touchdowns on the season. Lamb was selected 17th overall by the Cowboys after playing for the Sooners from 2017-2019.

Mark Andrews

Mark Andrews was named to his 3rd Pro Bowl in 5 years for the Baltimore Ravens. Andrews once again proved why he is one of the best tight ends in the league as he has posted another impressive season for the Ravens. On the season, Andrews has 64 receptions for 747 yards and 5 touchdowns. Mark Andrews was drafted by the Ravens in the 3rd round in 2018. He donned the Crimson & Cream for 3 seasons from 2015-2018.

Creed Humphrey

Creed Humphrey received his first Pro Bowl nod in his 2nd season in the NFL. The Shawnee, Oklahoma has been turning heads all across the country after his unreal rookie season. Humphrey had the highest PFF grade for a rookie in history with a 91.4, he also had a 0.54 WAR (wins above replacement) the best by a center in the NFL. To put this in perspective, Creed Humphrey almost won the Rookie of the Year as an offensive lineman, which is absolutely unreal and goes to show how good he was last season. Humphrey has not allowed a sack this season, he has only allowed 1 in his career, and has only 3 penalties this season. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Humphrey last season 63rd overall. The selection has proven to be an absolute steal for the Chiefs as Humphrey is quickly becoming one of the best offensive linemen in all of college football. Creed Humphrey played under Oklahoma Offensive Line Coach Bill Bedenbaugh for 3 seasons from 2018-2020.

Orlando Brown Jr

Orlando Brown Jr picked up his 4th Pro Bowl nomination this season. This season, Brown once again has been an exceptional blindside blocker for the Kansas City Chiefs. Throughout the season, Brown has only allowed 4 sacks. Orlando Brown Jr was the star blindside blocker for Baker Mayfield at Oklahoma from 2015-2017.

Trent Williams

Trent Williams was named to his 10th consecutive Pro Bowl. Williams has been one of the best tackles in football year in and year out throughout his time in Washington and now San Francisco. This offseason, Williams became the first offensive lineman to receive the perfect 99 overall rating in this year’s Madden NFL 2023, the first offensive lineman to receive this honor in 15 years. This season, Williams has been the highest-rated offensive tackle by PFF in the NFL. Williams’ dominance over the past decade has led to him becoming the highest-paid left tackle in NFL history. Trent Williams played for the Sooners from 2006-2009 before becoming the 4th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Lane Johnson

Lane Johnson was named to his 4th Pro Bowl. Johnson when healthy, is as consistent as it gets for the Philadelphia Eagles as he has not allowed a sack since week 11 of the 2020 season. That is nearly 2 and a half seasons without allowing a sack, Johnson has been as dominant as it gets for the Eagles over this stretch. Johnson’s ability to not allow a sack is exactly why he was named to the Pro Bowl once again. Lane Johnson played for the Sooners from 2009-2012 before becoming the 4th overall pick in the 2013 draft.

Tress Way

Tress Way earned his 2nd career Pro Bowl selection. The Tulsa native has been thrilling for the Washington Commanders this season as he has downed 44% of his punts within the 20-yard line. This season, Way averaged 46.9 yards per punt. Tress Way played for the Sooners from 2009-2012.

This year’s Pro Bowl selections go to show that the Sooners in the NFL are exceeding at the next level.
