Sooners Hold Serve With Pair of Run Rules

The Sooners had a short trip to Miami (Ohio) for two games which was originally three but weather cancelled the final game. The first game was against the Louisville, and the second against Miami (Ohio). Another sellout as fans lined up as early as 7:30 AM for a chance to see the Sooners.

Getting started early the Sooners busted the game open in the first inning. Seven runs were scored, highlighted by Haley Lee’s team leading 12th home run of the season. Louisville got one back after a leadoff walk, a double and an RBI groundout. Getting the run right back in the 2nd from a leadoff double from Brito and she was brought home on a single by Hansen. The scoring in the second wasn’t done as a 2 run HR by Cyd Sanders was crushed to center making it 10-1. With 1 out in the 4th the Sooners went to Kiersten Deal looking to get more experience for the freshman. She pitched a scoreless inning and 2/3rds as the Sooners put a bow on the run rule in 5. This might have been the best appearance of the season for Deal. She will likely prove vital during the postseason run so the Sooners have prioritizes getting her innings as of late.

In game two, the scoring didn’t get going until the 3rd. Player of the Year candidate Jayda Coleman knocked in the first run of the game with a single up the middle. Following Coleman up was Jennings with a 2 run RBI double. The RedHawks got one back with a monster home run from Maddy Banks. The Sooners response came quickly as Torres hit a leadoff home run that got out in a hurry on the first pitch of the 4th. Adding a 2 run shot in the 5th from Nugent to make it 6-1. The Sooners turned to Jordy Bahl in the 5th inning who was solid as usual. The scoring continued in the 6th for the Sooners with another 2 run home run, this time from Tiare Jennings. They weren’t done either as Brito hit an RBI double. The scoring continued with yet another 2 run HR, Kinzie Hansen with the pinch hit homer. 2 more runs came across off the bat of Lilio and capped off the run rule with another solid inning from Bahl.

The Sooners return to action in Waco this weekend. They return to where they suffered their only loss of the season. They look to keep their record in the Big 12 perfect.
