Sooners grab a huge win in overtime over Texas Tech

The Sooners got a huge overtime victory in Lubbock with a final score of 68-63. Oklahoma started the game out struggling offensively where it was simply just ugly. After 10 minutes of play, Texas Tech led the Sooners 17-10. The Sooners played well in the last 10 minutes of the first half and went into halftime with a 24-23 lead. In the second half, the Sooners jumped out to a 38-27 off 3 consecutive 3-pointers by Grant Sherfield, Milos Uzan, and CJ Noland. After the Sooners jumped out to the 11-point lead with 12 minutes left, it felt as if Texas Tech was going to come back and beat Oklahoma. Tech rallied all the way back from a 13 point deficit.

Texas Tech took their first lead of the second half with 23 seconds left in regulation going up 56-54. While trailing by 2 points in the final seconds of the game, true freshman Milos Uzan got fouled on a layup which sent him to the line to tie the game. Uzan knocked down both free throws to tie the game and to send it to overtime. Jalen Hill came up huge in overtime with 8 points to help the Sooners steal a road win in Lubbock.

Milos Uzan played his best game of the season tonight with 18 points. Uzan did a great job penetrating against a Texas Tech defense where you have to attack the basket to open things up. “I thought he was really good tonight for him as a freshman to step up in that enviroment to make those two shots,” said Porter Moser. It seems like every game Uzan just keeps improving. Oklahoma fans should be very excited about Milos Uzan. Jalen Hill had 18 points and 9 rebounds on the night, but what doesn’t show up on the stat sheet was how good his defense was. In his past 3 games, Hill has logged 14, 16, and 18 points.

Grant Sherfield had 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists on 4-17 shooting. Grant Sherfield is in what is a pretty apparent slump, it happens but the Sooners will need Sherfield to get out of it soon. Tanner Groves totaled 7 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Groves fouled out with 5:05 remaining in regulation. Tanner Groves had some huge putback dunks in the second half for the Sooners. Bijan Cortes only had 2 points and 3 assists but played really well and did a very good job of pushing the ball for the Sooners. CJ Noland stepped up for the Sooners with 5 points. Noland gave the Sooners some very good minutes for the second straight game.

Getting a road win in the Big 12 is always huge Milos Uzan said that, “It was a must win.” Oklahoma moves to 1-2 in conference play. “I love how they bounce back we’ve had two heartbreaking close losses and to be resiliant in this atmospehere,” said Moser. The Sooners will next get the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence on Tuesday, January 10th at 8 pm. The Jayhawks could be the #1 team in the country when the Sooners arrive at Allen Fieldhouse, a place they haven’t won in since 1993.
