OU Softball Sweeps Kansas; Extends Win Streak to 16
The Oklahoma softball team completed a series sweep of the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday. Let’s talk about it. In the first game of the series,
The Oklahoma Sooners dropped game 2 of the 3-game series against the California Baptist Lancers, 5-2. RHP Will Carsten had a solid debut for the Sooners in 5 innings of work on 97 pitches. The transfer from McLennan Community College struck out 4 batters while allowing 2 runs. California Baptist had 15 hits compared to the Sooners’ 8. RHP Jett Lodes had an impressive outing for the Sooners out of the pen, striking out 3 batters in 2 innings, including back-to-back strikeouts in 7th inning to get out of the jam. Sooners’ reliever, RHP Gray Harrison receives the loss for the Sooners, allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs in the 8th inning. The Sooners tried to get the rally going in the 9th, having bases loaded with 2 outs. However, CBU RHP Carson Olsen recovered, striking out Anthony Mackenzie to end the game.
CF and leadoff hitter for the Sooners, John Spikerman went 1-5 on the day. 1B Anthony Mackenzie went 2-5, including his first RBI as a Sooner. 2B Jackson Nicklaus went 1-3 on the day, including 1 walk. 3B Wallace Clark was the best bat for the Sooners today, going 3-4 with a double. LF Kendall Pettis went 1-2, scoring a run off of the bat of Anthony Mackenzie. As a team, the Sooners left 10 runners on base this afternoon, that is definitely something that can not happen for the Sooners in tomorrow’s rubber game.
The Sooners are back in action tomorrow at 2 PM CT, in the series-deciding game. Barring any changes from Skip Johnson, RHP Braxton Douthit will get the start for the Sooners.
