The Sooners started off their 2023 campaign strong today, picking up a 5-2 win vs Cal Baptist. RHP transfer Kale Davis picked up his first win in the Crimson and Cream, throwing 5 innings while only allowing 1 run, picking up 5 strikeouts, an impressive opening day performance to say the least. The Sooners’ new shortstop Dakota Harris made a lasting opening-day impression, sparking a 3-run 4th inning on a solo shot to left field. Rocco Garza-Gongora followed up Harris’ homer with a triple, scoring Wallace Clark. Then, ChaOUs struck, as Garza-Gongora scored on the wild pitch, capping off the 3-run inning.
The Sooners’ bullpen had an impressive showing, allowing zero runs. Carson Atwood took over in the 6th, picking up his first strikeout of the season in the frame. Skip Johnson then turned to Carter Campbell for 2 innings of work, striking out 2 batters.
