The Roundup – Start of Spring Edition
Insider news and notes to start off spring ball, including some preliminary depth chart battles, body transformations, and hope for the defense.
A lot a people have good days at Nationals.
But very few people do combined events, and PR in every single event
One of those people is OU’s Pippi Lotta Enok
How her day progressed, and yes.. she PR’d in every single event:
60m Hurdles: 8.52, 1013 points. 11th place in the event. 1013 points good enough for 11th overall
High Jump: 1.78m (5′ 10″), 953 points. 2nd place in the event. 1966 points good enough for 7th overall
Shot Put: 12.12m (39′ 9.25″), 669 points. 8th place in the event. 2635 points good enough for 6th overall
Long Jump: 6.18m (20′ 3.5″), 905 points. 2nd place in the event. 3540 points good enough for 4th overall
800m: 2:17.35, 860 points. 7th place in the event. 4400 points finished her 3rd overall
Her 4400 points breaks her own school record of 4207!
This was one of the best performances of the year for OU Track and Field.
My only 3 complaints as I think about her performances:
1. She reacted very slowly out of the blocks for the 60m Hurdles.
Rebuttal: PR time and didn’t hit a single hurdle.
2. Shot put was too far up her head
Rebuttal: PR throw, and kept her in a spot to potentially win the National Title
3. Start of the 800m, she didn’t go with the back of the lead group
Rebuttal: PR time, and the winner ran her best time ever.
As you can see, I have my complaints, but you can shut them up pretty easily!
Coach Jerel Langley has to be super excited about the sophomore’s performance today!
Talk about peaking at the right time!
Someone I wrote to watch to contend if she has her breakout performance: Olivia Lueking.
She did just that!
She finished 2nd overall in the Pole Vault and also jumped her personal best which also happens to be a School Record as well! She only finished 2nd on 1 single miss on her very first jump of the competition.
Expect her to have a MONSTER Outdoor Season now that she broke through her Sophomore Slump and finished 2nd in the Indoor Pole Vault!
Jerel Langley is able to update his resume to say “2 women All-Americans”
He’s having a very, very good day!
Congrats to Coach, Olivia Lueking, and Pippi Lotta Enok
